Micro-focused ultrasound · Ultherapy, Ulthera (Merz)
How it works
Ultrasound focused to a point under the skin, heat where it meets
- 10 MHz transducer1.5 mm
- 7 MHz transducer3 mm
- 4 or 7 MHz transducer4.5 mm
The scale measures the focal points, not the layers. Sound converges to the point and heats the tissue there; the surface is not cut.

Results & duration
Maker-funded studies measured brow and lower-face lift
Blinded photo review
Brow lifted
86%30 of 35 people
Three masked raters, none of them authors, judged photographs at 90 days; the brow rose 1.7 mm on average.
Blinded photo review
Lower face tighter
58.1%of 93 people
Three blinded reviewers compared photographs at 90 days; 65.6% rated their own lower face improved.
How long does Ultherapy last?
Measured to 180 days. The two studies rated the brow and the lower face at 90 days and stopped; the maker’s chest study rated photographs at 180 days. Clinic pages say one to two years and sell a repeat session at that interval; the instructions give no duration.
