To at least 39 °C on the face and 41 °C on the body, then held. The manual’s end point is the skin’s surface temperature: at least 39 °C on the face, held 5 minutes or more, and 41 °C on the body, held 10 or more, the applicator kept moving. A course is 6 to 8 face or neck treatments a week apart, 8 to 10 on a body area. The manual states no depth, so none is drawn. Illustrations are schematic.

Results & duration

Blinded and unblinded wrinkle ratings differed

Two single-arm studies, 11 and 16 people; the maker’s sham-controlled trial has posted no results. Wrinkles improved in 36% of eleven faces to the blinded rater, 82% to the unblinded one. Skin laxity improved in all 11 to both investigators (100%). The sham-controlled trial enrolled 60 and was completed September 2014.

How long does Venus Freeze last?

Not measured past one month. The face-and-neck study stopped a week after the last treatment; the stretch-mark study at one month says durability is not known. Three clinic pages recommend maintenance instead of stating a duration, from once a month to every four months.

Ontario names no controlled act for it. The Controlled Acts regulation prescribes electricity only for listed uses such as electrocoagulation and fulguration, and electromagnetism only for magnetic resonance imaging; heating the skin’s surface, as the manual directs, is neither, and nothing is injected or cut. Section 30 still restricts treatments that risk serious bodily harm to regulated professionals. The manual limits the device to trained professionals in medical aesthetics.
